I’m a curator, writer and musician interested in utopianism, public art and ecology.

My book, Rethinking Utopia: Place, Power, Affect, was published by Routledge in 2017. I’m also a member of the Out of the Woods collective: a collection of our essays was published as Hope Against Hope: Writings on Ecological Crisis by Common Notions in 2020.

I have taken part in public talks at/for Nottingham Contemporary, the ICA (London), Red May Seattle, W139 (Amsterdam), LCB Depot (Leicester), b_tour (Berlin), The Tetley (Leeds), Historical Materialism (Toronto), &Utopia (online), and reproduce(future) (Hamburg).

I work as the Curator of Loughborough University’s arts collection, and was a member of the Wasteland Twinning arts research collective. I produced the speculative radio documentary Wasted Common: A Future History of Two Urban Wastelands for Resonance FM.

I have produced commissioned musical works/performances for the ICA, Latitude Festival, London Short Film Festival, Nottingham Contemporary and Ordinary Culture.

I live in Nottingham, UK and can be contacted at dmbell85@gmail.com. I’d love to hear from people interested in collaborating.
